Instant Crush is an electronic song from French music duo Daft Punk, featuring Julian Casablancas (doing the vocals). The music video briefly shows Daft Punks trademark helmets but focuses on the unconventional story of two museum waxworks falling in love, with Julian Casablancas singing between shots of the romance.
The video relies on visuals to tell the story with the two waxworks not moving or showing any expression throughout. Certain positioning of the camera creates the impression of the waxworks glance at each other and protection. For example the male waxworks first look at the female waxwork is done with the camera zooming in on the face, possibly a trombone shot as the waxwork has lost all focused on everything except the female waxwork.
Julian Casablancas and the male solider waxwork share a similar resemblance for example the hair. This example can connote that the solider wants to sing his love out, and not stuck in one position. The setting Julian Casablancas sings in, looks very much like the museum gallery, however the exhibitions are blacked out. Further emphasising how the solider wants to break out and sing, with all focus on, especially with the spot light on him from above.
The ending of the music video sees the two waxworks, melt together through a fire. This is very stereotypical in the aspect of love through the two melting, melting together. Visuals of the hands melting into one another give the impression that they are holding hands and are going to die together.
The music video is very useful in aid to my coursework as the video focused on visuals of the camera from to motionless figures. This video gives me the understanding you can make a good quality music video from limited effects, small sets and at low cost. But still make an emotional & unconventional to most music videos.
