Who are the specific audiences for particular products?

Classical

Classical musical can go all the way back to 16th century to the early 20th century and has a stereotypical audience of white, middle class and over 50. This is understandable with younger audiences consuming Pop music of today. Audiences tend to be in their middle age through listening to classical music at an early age and the music today not being aimed at middle aged or elderly. However this stereotype can be broken with me who am a fan of classical music. I'm a fan of classical music through watching films that feature these songs, for example The Blue Danube and Also sprach Zarathustra from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Rock

Rock music started in the 20th century in America but a range of styles has come from Britain and America. Rock in audience demographics is mainly made up of males through a high majority of the rock genre being made up of males, with very few female figures. Maslow's hierarchy of human needs comes into the age demographic through the social aspect of having a lot of friends and being a part of friendship which rock focuses on with parties and gigs going on. Current rock music can be targeted at 16-25 year olds because of this. However, older people are still interesting in rock depending on the time they listened to rock. For example people in their forties will have an interest in this genre as when the listened to rock in their youth Rolling Stones were in their prime.

Pop

Pop music is the main genre of today and has many sub genres complied into one such as urban, dance, Latin and country. A lot of music is called Pop, as it is very popular as it derives pop into meaning popular. Pop music’s audience is mostly targeted at a young audience from (Possibly 6 to 25). Pop music dominated the media today on radio, TV and the Internet and the genre is most likely to be the first heard by children. Pop music is open to men and women with high music figures of both sexes. Evidence of this can be noticed at the capital summertime ball, which is made up of a very young audience where they hear music that is very clean with no swearing and non-offensive or sexual nature.

Hip Hop or Rap

Hip Hop or Rap came from African American youth residing in the Bronx in the 1970's. This has given the stereotype of most hip hop and rap music being targeted at a black ethnicity that is male. Most songs have themes about women as sexual objects and talk about problems black male shave for example being stopped and searched by the police. However in the 1990's Eminem’s breakthrough into the musical world sparked white males to listen to this genre, including myself. Since then Hip Hop and Rap has still been primarily for Black Males with figures such as Kendrick Lamar, however songs with rapping have been used by white males and females with Example and Iggy Azelia.
