Music Video

No Church in the Wild - Jay Z & Kanye West Featuring Frank Ocean

1. Your inspiration.

No Church in the Wild is a very dark, bass and chill of a song about sexuality and trust. The song can be interpreted in different ways which can be expanded in a music video. The official music video is completely different to what I imagined and that is why I choose it. I have owned the song since the day it was released in 2012 and has bought this tension and dark fantasy.

2. Explain idea/concept.

The song explores themes of religion which what I’m focusing on (which the original music video didn’t explore.). My idea is to see what happens if one day the truth of humanities existence was found and how people of religious backgrounds would react. However this can be a difficult to incorporate in any media product through the risk of offending a religious group. That is why with my video i will not reveal any religious group in the video and not reveal the supposed truth of humanities existence.

3. Explain target audience.

The song is already targeted at a 16-30 year old for having adult theme of religion and explicit lyrics. Rap genre is what genre No Church In The Wild comes under and is targeted at a black ethnicity through the history of rap coming from this ethnicity and the media making the genre conventionally towards black males.

4. Who will feature, what will feature, where will it be set?

Belmont Downs' footpaths and fields in the day.

Me - as main character in narration, but i’ll never show my face. Extreme close ups of face to show emotions i.e. eyes with tears to showing sadness.

5. What kind of institutions is likely to be involved?

Institutions such as Roc Nation who focus on this genre will be most likely to make this video.

6. What ideological values will be mediated?

Depression - How would someone react if what they believed is not true, could they believe they've wasted their lives?

Loneliness - Before you could turn to your religion if you faced a problem, but who would you go to now if your religion was proven to not exist.

Guilt - Could you feel that you are saying lies your child that you have brought up to believe in a religion?

The song is very dark, chill and deep in meaning which can be used to bring these emotions out.

7. What equipment will you need?

Camera

Scruffy clothes

Fake newspapers with headlines on discovery.

[Prop that someone can use for suicide.]

2 rings (Fake wedding rings.)

Mobile

Fake blood or dark liquid (Due to being in black and white.).

8. What locations will you use?

Belmont Downs including public footpaths, pavement leading in.

House for table scene at the start and flashback.

9. What permissions will you need?

I won’t be able to do this on my own so I’ll ask people for help in making the video.

I will also have to ask my parents if I can use the dining room.

10. What costs are involved?

Hopefully not much will be spent as the clothes can be old clothes I own, but ripped slightly.

Setting will be the forest and my house which is free.

I can get old newspapers and print some fake front pages on top.
