I started research today for my magazine advert promoting my digipack; I started off by googling different adverts used to promote albums of today. I’m not look at old adverts for albums over 20 years ago, as I need to look a t the best and latest market techniques that would be best to promote an album. I’ve decided to start by looking at the latest albums of the by Jay Z and Kanye West to see how they are promoted as they are part of the same genre and they are the two artist on the song I’m promoting.

The Jay Z album being promoted is his 2009 eleventh album The Blueprint 3 which appeared on the back of all albums, connoting the back of an album is a very good place to have an advert as the front and the back are mostly like to be seen by people buying or not buying the magazine. If you had the advert in the middle of the magazine then only readers will see the advert when reading it. From this I will make my album formatted to the scales an entire magazine cover that would go on the back as this seems the best place to be. Many other artists have also used the back especially for music magazines such as Q and NME, for example Jessie J and Rihanna. The advert features the album artwork made bigger and the titles have been placed at the bottom to connote the style Jay Z is bringing in this new album. For my album, I might have my digipack cover taking up most of the room, except I will move the titles and change the cover slightly like Jay Z so the audience can get the other information of the release date and the artist instead of having this on the album, like the hard copy version.

Kanye West’s album is very plain compared to Jay Z album cover, through featuring just the album (Which is blank.) and black and white texts. Instead of having the album cover art redone for the adverts, the Yeezus album is show without any alterations. This could be done so the audience understands exactly what the album looks like when they are trying to find the album in shops. This is another option for me as the advert is promoting the product and by showing exactly what the album looks like, if I changed the album design to much in the poster then the audience might not recognise the real product.
Both the Jay Z and Kanye West album features text however they are both done differently. The Jay Z text is the same font as to what the album has; this further connotes how the album advert needs to have many similarities to the product so the audience knows exactly what the poster is advertising. The Kanye West album on the other hand doesn’t have any specific font meaning unique font for the poster has been created which is similar to the album. The album is very violent and scary and the font could be linked to this through looking like font from a horror movie, this helps for my research as I will have to incorporate a font and design that matches the songs style of being dark.
In conclusion, these two albums magazine covers help me in my research as when I make mien I will have to include the album I’m promoting with the style of the poster matching the digipack and the song itself as the audience needs to have a clear understanding in what I’m promoting.
