How Editing Is Going?

So far editing it going very well, although I will go over and change parts of my song, I would say that everything that I have edited 75% done. Certain parts I’m still unhappy with and will change. Also I still have 30 seconds to film which is a nightmare as I’m trying to find time to film; hopefully I can get it done soon. In the meantime I can edit the footage I’ve got and do my other too tasks.

The best thing about editing so far is how much time has been saved in already understanding the Final Cut program through last year’s AS Foundation work and the test shot video done this year. Editing for last year’s 2 minute opening sequence took far longer through not understanding how to upload footage and use the program. This year however I’ve been able to upload the footage to Final Cut and get straight on to editing the footage. Having extra time when editing enables me more time to play with the footage in making the editing the best as possible. Another key factor that has made editing go so well does not have to rely on others when in a team. Although the work load increases, being independent has enabled me to get more work done through being enabled to structure when I want to work. I personally think I will edit this 4 minute clip quicker than the 2 minute clip last year through experience and being independent.

Another key factor to editing going so well is having flexibility in my clips. The 3 minutes of footage edited already was put together with almost 8 minute footage still not used. Although some of it was not good of footage, other parts could have been used but just didn’t have the space or there was footage that was even better. It would have been far harder in editing if I was limited in footage that I could use, however having so much has made the editing process so much easier. I learnt this from last year where I editing was difficult through having such limited footage, this year however I was able to get far more footage done by doing the same scenes over and over again but in different camera angles.

Although editing has gone very well, many factors have raised concern, firstly, last year being in a team enabled us to get different ideas across when editing the opening sequence. However this year, just being me means I don’t have other views. Occasionally I can ask people in my class but they can’t contribute as much as compared to last year through they have their own work to-do. Another factor that is making editing difficult is although I understand Final Cut well, there are still parts I don’t know, and I feel I could make my music video better if I knew, but I’m never going to know how to fully work the program.

Editing has also been difficult through matching the footage with the song. The song I’m using No Church in the Wild is now one of my most hated songs through constantly having to replay it over and over again. Putting the footage in time with the beat of the song is very difficult through a second out would or even half a second out would look unprofessional. I have to keep playing the music video, making sure the song links with the video. This can be very time consuming and hard to identify and is especially hard to-do after school on a Friday. Although you can’t change the fact the song has to sync in with the song, if I was to-do this again, I would of picked a song where the rhythm of the song is far more easier to identify and edit together for example Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas. No Church in the Wild’s beat is far harder to identify and with a change in pace multiple time throughout, this adds to extra difficulty.

In Conclusion, the editing of the music video has gone better than expected and I’m personally proud in how I’ve been able to use experience from last year to be able to make the editing far easier than last year. The editing of the music video can be difficult but I have made it easier for myself.
