The next two magazine adverts I have found from magazines are from two opposite ends of the music spectrum. Coldplay’s fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto, this established alternative rock band will easily be more successful compared to the other artist I’m researching. This other artist is Ben Howard with his debut album Every Kingdom, his promotion will be far more important to him as he needs to attract people’s attention whereas Coldplay already have a large fan base.

Coldplay’s magazine advert in almost exactly the same as the real album, this is done so the audience understands what the product being advised what looks like. I have seen this is used in the vast majority of my research and will be a key factor to my work. The key difference to this is the use of titles which includes extra information. The main feature is the date of release which is obviously needed so the reader knows when they can get; I might include a reference to my CDs availability by saying a date or simply “Out Now” or “Pre-Order now”. One factor this this poster I’m surprised about his how difficult it is to rea the titles. The inclusion of this graffiti style wall that reminds me of the Berlin Wall connotes the bands being expressive of who they are and what they feel. But having this colourful artwork makes it very difficult to see some of the titles, especially the name of the band and date; I personally thought that you would want to make this clear otherwise many people might miss out on key information. The font also doesn’t help in fully seeing the titles; one reason this could have been done is by having such a colourful design could mean difficult titles means the reader will look more at the article to find the information through the attention the product draws.

The other magazine advert is Ben Howard’s debut album which is far easier and clearer to see unlike Coldplay’s. Ben Howard’s album is identical to the advert except the format of the photo has been changed with the background (The water.) made larger enabling more information on the poster unlike the album which is far smaller. The extra information is similar to Coldplay’s album for example release date and acme of the album and artist. Ben Howard’s advertisement will be very important through the artist not being established in the music world and with a small fan base compared to Coldplay. Having the poster similar to the album is very important as the audience needs to understand exactly what is being advertised as the audience will not understand Ben Howard’s style, so promotion information is key so the audience will buy it.

In conclusion, the album itself is an important factor to include on the magazine advert as the audience needs to understand what is being promoted. Furthermore information on when it’s available to buy is also key, for example whether it’s possible to pre-order or buy now.
