Muse & Jessie J

Today I did more research into my music magazine advert for my digipack looking at the adverts promoting Jessie J’s album Who You Are and Muse’s album The Resistance. I will use this research to help in determine how I’m going to be making my magazine advert to promote my digipack.

Muse’s album cover is very useful for my research through looking very similar to my digipack, thus I can see how they changed the album (If they did?) in order to make it a good magazine advert. The album artwork is the same compared to the poster except the artwork has been expanded to fit a page of magazine unlike the square of a cd cover. I will add extra detail to my album cover in order to make it fit the size of a magazine page. Details include information on a release date such as “01.01.14” or “Coming Soon”. This is an important factor for promotion as the audience might not buy the record as they don’t know it’s out even if it has been released through no information of availability. Muse’s album cover is very useful in my research through I can see how a similar album cover is promoted and whether I should include this similar artwork on the music magazine cover.

Jessie J’s album cover for Who You Are is a conventional magazine advert to promote music. The album cover is featured on the front and takes most of the adverts space. This is important so the audience knows exactly what is being promoted and can recognise it in shops or online. However this advert features extra information on certain songs that have been successful “Including the #1 International Smash Price Tag”. By doing this fans of the song will want to buy the song as it can be applied that similar songs will be on the album. My advert can only feature one song through being a single release not the whole album which the song originally came from.

In conclusion, this researched has helped me confirm the idea of having the cover of my digipack being the main aspect of my advert as the audience needs to see what is being advertised. The Muse advert helps most in my research as it’s similar to my album cover cover is suitable.
